At the 9th Woodhaven Warrior Classic held at Lake Erie Metropark, the Allen Park Boys Cross Country squad came up just short of a trophy Friday night, finishing 4th with 147 points, 4 points shy of 3rd place Wyandotte Roosevelt. Vetaly Hayden led the way, posting a 17:37, which was good for 8th. Joining him on the medals stand were Lucas Eccleton (18:07, 16th) and Troy Schnell (18:22, 22nd). Terry Emeigh (18:47, 38th) and Avery Sanchez (19:35, 66th) rounded out the scoring for the Jags.
In the JV race, the Allen Park squad posted an impressive score of 30 points, enough to out-duel the host Woodhaven team by 12 points. Justin Miner, Collin Miracle, Miguel Gonzalez, Dylan Holly, and Jerry Kephart finished 4th – 8th respectively with a time spread of just 9.3 seconds, while Nick Wrona and Daniel Reckling finished a few spots back in 11th & 12th, which pushed all other team scores higher. This was the first Invitational victory for a JV squad in decades!
The Jaguar harriers will next compete at the 51st Holly Festival of Races next Saturday at Springfield Oaks Park in Davison, MI.
NOTES: 6 Jags posted Personal Best times; 11 Jags improved time from last season’s event; Avery Sanchez had the biggest improvement, 4-minutes, 03.9 seconds better than last year.
