Boys Cross Country Runner-Up in Downriver League; Reserves Claim the Title

Game Date
Oct 18, 2018

The Allen Park boy harriers capped off league competition for the season, Thursday, in the Downriver League Championship meet held at Lake Erie Metropark. The boys entered the day in 2nd place in the season standings. Overall in the meet, the boys placed 3rd, behind the champions, Woodhaven and just 5-points behind Southgate Anderson. With their 3rd place finish in the Championship race, the Jags claimed 2nd place overall on the season in the Downriver League!

Leading the Jags was Troy Schnell (17:25.2, 10th), who posted a personal-best en route to 2nd Team All-Downriver League honors. Ryan Nicholson (17:40.8, 14th) was next across the line for the Jags in personal record time, followed by the captain Lucas Eccleton (17:46.2, 18th). Vetaly Hayden (17:50.4, 21st) and Isaiah Jacobs (18:25.5, 30th) rounded out the scoring for the Jaguar harriers.

In J.V. action, the Allen Park boys battled their way to a meet victory, edging Woodhaven 35-36. Dylan Holly (19:05.2, 4th) and Nick Wrona (19:05.5, 5th) took charge in the final half-mile to split up the lead trio from Woodhaven. Avery Sanchez (19:17.5, 7th) was next across the line. Troy Rogalski (19:31.5, 8th) made an excellent final charge to put Woodhaven’s 4th runner behind him in the final 100 meters. Collin Miracle (19:42.9, 11th) rounded out the scoring, but Jerry Kephart (19:47.5, 13th) and David Pace (19:55.0, 15th) were able to edge Woodhaven’s 5th, pushing their score higher, which clinched the victory for the Reserve squad. With the win, the J.V. squad claimed the overall title in the Downriver League!

NOTES: This is the 3rd time in the past 5 seasons that the boys Varsity harriers have placed runner-up in the final standings; Troy ran 4,870 meters with 1 shoe (after an ill-advised maneuver through the only muddy spot on the course); Isaiah fought through a rough bout of food-poisoning earlier in the day to compete; 5 Jags set personal-bests & 16 ran course-best times
