The Lady Jags traveled to Gibraltar Carlson on Thursday for the season-opening meet. After a re-scheduled date, the weather was extremely favorable, which aided in some impressive early season performances. The Jaguar squad started the meet strong, scoring 50 points in the first 9 contested events, and coasted past the opposing Marauders with an impressive 95-42 victory.

Leading the charge for the Jags was Lyric Spears (Sr.) who scored 15 points in her 3 individual events, with victories in the Long Jump (17' 1/2"), 100m High Hurdles (15.50), and the 100m dash (12.8). She also added a successful leg of the winning 4x100m Relay (53.9), along with Marisa Kepes (Jr.), Jessika Palmarchuk (Jr.), and Emma Watson (Fr.).

Kylee Dietz (So.) had a career day in the High Jump with a winning jump of 4'8" and followed up with a 2nd place finish in 100m High Hurdles (18.64) and a 3rd place finish in the 300m Low Hurdles (58.5). Lisa Luecke (Fr.) posted a pair of victories in the 1600m (6:08) & 3200m (13:54). Morgan Cartwright (Sr.) cruised to a win in the 300m Low Hurdles (53.4), while Abby Raftis (Fr.) cinched the team win with a victory in the 400m (1:08.3).

Maddie Scroggins (Sr.) made a statement in the discus with a toss of 90'3 1/2", while teammate Izzy Conn (Jr.) posted a win in the shot put with a heave of 30'3" and placed 2nd in the discus (77'4"). Gianna Tiberia (So.) had a quality day in the jumps, vaulting to 8'0" in the Pole Vault to lead the field and followed with a runner-up leap in the Long Jump (13' 7 1/2").

The squad will have the week off due to Spring Break, but will be back in action against Wyandotte Roosevelt 3:30PM on Tuesday, April 9 @ Roosevelt High School.

 

NOTES: With her leap of 17' 1/2", Lyric Spears is just the second Lady Jag to break the 17-foot barrier in the Long Jump, behind her coach, Meghan Terry (17' 6 1/4").
