The Jags harriers competed in their second (of three) Downriver League competitions yesterday at Young Patriots' Park in Riverview. Although the times did not show it, the boys had one of their strongest races of the season, pacing to another 2nd place finish. In fact, they cut the projected deficit to Woodhaven from 59 points down to just 28 points!
Troy Schnell (11th, 18:03) once again led the Jags and improved his chances for an All-League bid. Following close behind, with crucial close proximity to each other, were Vetaly Hayden (14th, 18:14), Isaiah Jacobs (16th, 18:16 PR), and Lucas Eccleton (18th, 18:18). Capping off the scoring was Ryan Nicholson (23rd, 18:32) and Terry Emeigh (25th, 18:47), who pushed the challenging Wyandotte Roosevelt Bears' score higher.
In the J.V. race, the Jags rode a 23-second spread between the scoring-5 to double-up the Woodhaven Warriors. Collin Miracle (3rd, 19:34) took charge of the race early and continually cut into the leading Warriors. Avery Sanchez (4th, 19:35) finished the final half-mile with a strong kick gaining a lot of ground on the field. Dylan Holly (6th, 19:49), Nick Wrona (7th, 19:52), and Troy Rogalski (8th, 19:57) rounded out the scoring and traded places for much of the race.
NOTES: 3 Jags posted personal best races, while 2 others improved their season-best times. ; The Jags will next compete Saturday in the Wayne County Championship at Willow Metropark.
